Qualification Requirements

For both the masters and doctoral program the applicant must have a bachelors degree or equivalent Applicants with a masters degree can apply directly into the doctoral program but applicants with a bachelors degree must achieve a masters degree prior to the PhD program either through another institution or our own To be accepted applicants typically have a GPA of at least a 3.25 and competitive GRE scores Applicants must submit one official record transcript from each academic institution attended These must bear the actual signature of the Registrar and the seal of the issuing institution The Graduate Record Exam GRE Applicants should take the exams no later than October or November We will not accept GRE scores that have expired after three years the test was taken Three letters of recommendations from professors they have taken courses in or have worked closely with to verify the applicants academic record strengths and interest in our department to be submitted using the online application system Applicants must submit a writing sample of 15 pages max as evidence of their academic work A minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA will be required for admission to graduate programs at UCLA Your IELTS Academic overall band score should be at least 7.0 7.0 is the minimum required Your TOEFL score on the paper and pencil test must be at least 560 or at least 87 on the internetbased test
