The Geography department grants M.A. degrees at the graduate level, while Earth Sciences offers both M.S. and Ph.D. programs. Those pursuing geophysics graduate studies should reach out to CERI for details. Our graduate curriculum fosters student development through academic coursework, research initiatives, and career-building experiences. We support scholarly investigation across traditional disciplines and interdisciplinary approaches.
Program goals include: (1) developing proficiency in addressing complex Earth Science challenges through field and laboratory work; (2) achieving specialized expertise in Earth Science principles and their practical applications; and (3) equipping students for professional careers or doctoral studies in Earth Sciences and related fields. This program mandates a thesis and completion of 32 credit hours. Greetings from the Earth Sciences Department. Established in 2002 within the University of Memphis's College of Arts and Sciences, our department boasts 14 faculty members specializing in Archaeology, Geography, and Geology. We prioritize individualized excellence through cooperative, cross-disciplinary Earth Science education and investigation. Both professors and students enjoy the freedom to explore unconventional academic paths that might be constrained in conventional departments. Our department collaborates closely with campus institutions including CERI, CAESER, Chucalissa Museum, and CIUM. Archaeology faculty maintain strong connections with other archaeology-focused programs throughout the university.
