UCLA's Electrical & Computer Engineering Department explores electromagnetics through all dimensions of science and engineering derived from Maxwell's equations. These fundamental equations govern electric and magnetic field behavior and their interplay with charges and currents. Electromagnetic principles form the foundation of virtually all contemporary electrical systems, computing technologies, and communication networks. Our academic programs and investigations encompass theoretical studies, computational modeling, optimization techniques, device design, and experimental measurements for diverse applications. These span wireless communication systems, satellite and terrestrial networks, medical technologies, sensor development, multifunctional antennas, and metamaterials operating across microwave, millimeter-wave, and terahertz frequency ranges. Our groundbreaking, internationally recognized research has been documented in prestigious publications, including influential books, scholarly chapters, and top-tier journal and conference papers.
