This research-focused Ph.D. program provides diverse specialization options in electrical, computer, and biomedical engineering. Candidates must complete at least 72 credits post-bachelor's degree. Up to 30 credits from an M.S. degree can be applied, with the remainder divided between coursework and dissertation research. Those entering with a relevant M.S. complete 18-24 dissertation credits, while others without may take 18-30 (additional dissertation credits can be taken without counting toward the degree). The program mandates a qualifying exam and a comprehensive exam after finishing all coursework. All students must complete two credits of departmental seminars (ELE 601 and 602), which don't count toward the 42-credit requirement beyond the master's level.

GRE and M.S. degree or equivalent in electrical, computer, or biomedical engineering, physics, mathematics, or computer science, or a related field. Exceptional candidates may be admitted directly from the B.S. degree.
A cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better in the undergraduate career that can be confirmed with official transcripts from the institution (some programs may require a higher or lower GPA).
TOEFL iBT - An overall score of 80 or above
Reading: 19 ,Writing: 18, Listening: 17, Speaking: 18
The minimum score on the Paper-based TOEFL is 550.
