UCLA's Economics Ph.D. Program equips students for professional roles as economists across academia, industry, and public service. This rigorous curriculum blends advanced economic theory with practical analysis of real-world challenges and institutional frameworks. Alumni hold positions at prestigious global universities, governmental organizations, financial institutions, research institutes, and corporate enterprises. Distinguished graduates include Nobel laureate William Sharpe, who completed both his undergraduate and doctoral studies at UCLA before receiving the 1990 Economics Nobel Prize for developing the capital asset pricing model.
