The field of Environmental and Natural Resource Economics examines how humans interact with ecological systems. At UNM, we take an interdisciplinary approach, integrating economics with fields like biology, hydrology, chemistry, engineering, and public health. Our research tackles critical environmental challenges facing both New Mexico and the global community, such as climate change, water scarcity, forest management, wildfires, water resources, energy systems, and invasive species.

We aim not just to analyze human economic activities' effects on nature, but also to equip decision-makers with better data for crafting policies that balance economic growth, sustainable resource management, and equitable environmental outcomes.
