Earning a Ph.D involves advanced specialization within anthropology, typically demanding an additional year of academic work. Candidates must prove their mastery of the field through: (1) passing a Written Qualifying Exam evaluated by a three-person Departmental Doctoral Committee, (2) succeeding in an Oral Qualifying Exam assessed by a four-member Ph.D Committee, and (3) producing an innovative dissertation grounded in unique research. This final project should represent a meaningful advancement in anthropological scholarship and understanding.
An international student whose post-secondary education is completed outside of the U.S. is expected to hold a degree representing completion of at least four years of study with above average scholarship from a university or university-level institution.
IELTS Academic overall band score should be at least 7.0 is the minimum required.
TOEFL score on the paper and pencil test must be at least 560 or at least 87 on the internet-based test.
