The Master of Fine Arts in Art with a Critical & Curatorial Studies specialization prepares graduate students for professional paths in curatorial work, art critique, and public arts programming. This three-year program equips graduates with deep knowledge of artistic and visual culture discussions spanning modernism to contemporary times, the ability to develop fresh approaches to exhibitions and criticism, and practical skills to implement groundbreaking projects. The University Art Galleries play a central role in the program, functioning as research hubs for Critical and Curatorial students and faculty.
This interdisciplinary program is led by faculty from both Studio Art and the Visual Studies PhD program within the School of Humanities. The partnership between these departments ensures graduates are ready for positions across the visual arts sector, including museums, galleries, publications, and archival institutions. Blending elements of MA and MFA education, the Critical and Curatorial curriculum reflects its unique position bridging the School of the Arts and the School of Humanities.
