Housed in FSU's Department of Art History, the Museum and Cultural Heritage Studies (MCHS) MA program fosters critical thinking about art and material culture's role in society while equipping students for museum and heritage careers. Our curriculum blends theoretical knowledge with hands-on experience, focusing on ethical considerations, community involvement, and inclusive museum approaches. We analyze the power structures embedded in museum collecting, exhibition strategies, and curatorial decisions, along with how history is interpreted and discussed in public spheres.

Students can pursue two distinct study paths: The Tallahassee Track or The Ringling Track. During their second year, participants may continue in Tallahassee collaborating with Florida's Department of State, SEAC, and various cultural institutions, or apply for The Ringling Track to study at Sarasota's renowned John & Mable Ringling Museum of Art - among the nation's top university-affiliated art museums.

As part of the Southern Regional Education Board's Academic Common Market, the MCHS program allows eligible students from Louisiana, South Carolina, and Tennessee to enroll at in-state tuition rates.

Our distinguished faculty includes Mora Beauchamp-Byrd, Kristin Dowell, Kyle Killian, Paul Niell, Erika Loic, Michael Carrasco, Brendan Weaver, Susan Baldino, and Carey Fee, complemented by visiting scholars and Ringling Museum experts.
