The DASA program centers on the interdisciplinary study of demography, primarily involving faculty and courses from the School of Social Sciences. Upon finishing the program, students receive a Master of Arts in Social Sciences with a specialization in Demographic and Social Analysis.
This intensive nine-month MA program combines foundational graduate courses from the school, covering population theory, research methodology, statistical analysis, and demographic techniques. Students can choose from a rotating selection of population-focused electives to supplement these core subjects. During the academic year, participants put their acquired knowledge into practice through a research initiative. The program concludes with an oral examination where students showcase their research findings.
Students must hold a B.A. or B.S., normally in a social science or related field, and should have had at least four units of undergraduate statistics or equivalent mathematics courses. Students must meet the general admission requirements for graduate studies, which include official transcripts of all college course work, Graduate Record Examination scores for tests taken within the past five years, and three letters of recommendation.
