The Bachelor of Fine Arts in Music Theatre program offers an intensive curriculum featuring song repertoire development, audition strategies, dance techniques and repertoire, stage vocal performance, and studies in American musical theater history. After completing one quarter of Music Theatre Workshop, Level III (DRAMA 143A, DRAMA 143B, or DRAMA 143C), students may audition for the B.F.A. program each quarter. The Drama Department, consistently ranked among the nation's top ten training programs, integrates extensive liberal arts education with specialized instruction across various theater disciplines. The department stages a diverse annual production calendar including plays, musicals, and world premiere works exploring different scales and performer-audience dynamics. Established with the goal of developing critically thinking theater artists, the department cultivates an innovative atmosphere for design, performance, and academic exploration. Its unique blend of renowned permanent faculty, visiting master artists, engaged students, and outstanding facilities creates a dynamic program that balances creative vitality with academic excellence. The faculty comprises accomplished professionals who bring contemporary, practical knowledge to their instruction.
Student must have completed secondary school with excellent grades/marks in academic subjects and have earned a certificate of completion that enables you to be admitted to a university in your home country and is equivalent to a U.S. high school diploma. If your secondary/high school was completed in a country where English was not the language of instruction, or if you have less than three years of high school curriculum instruction in English in the U.S., you are required to demonstrate English proficiency.
Various examinations and scores may be used to demonstrate proficiency in English: Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) examination: Internet-based test (IBT): score 80 or higher; Score 6.5 or higher on the International English Language Testing System (IELTS); Freshman applicants may complete one UC approved English composition course.
