The History undergraduate program cultivates analytical thinking and promotes understanding of contemporary society by exploring past events. Our Department introduces diverse historical perspectives, all focusing on essential skills: evaluating sources, building coherent arguments, and examining theoretical frameworks in historical interpretation.
We provide introductory courses suitable for both majors and non-majors, many of which satisfy UCI's general education criteria.
Non-history majors with historical interests can pursue a History minor. This condensed version of our major program maintains academic rigor while accommodating studies in other disciplines.
Advanced courses cover specialized topics including national histories (like Chinese civilization), international relations (such as Modern Middle East development), and sociocultural examinations (including American women's history). Students gain intimate learning opportunities through colloquia - interactive seminars featuring in-depth text analysis and intensive writing components.
