The Textiles Graduate Program provides students with comprehensive interdisciplinary expertise in textiles, encompassing both social and physical sciences as they relate to textile applications. Participants develop skills to design, execute, and analyze textile research while effectively communicating findings. The program allows students to focus on physical sciences, behavioral aspects, or integrated studies of textiles and fibrous materials. Research opportunities span chemical, physical, biochemical, and mechanical characteristics of fibers, polymers, and textile structures like composites, paper, and nonwoven materials. State-of-the-art research facilities for fiber, polymer, and textile studies are complemented by a dedicated behavioral research lab. The graduate faculty comprises Textiles and Clothing Division members alongside professors from diverse departments including cultural studies, design, psychology, consumer science, chemistry, engineering, and materials science.
