Epidemiology integrates principles and techniques from biology, economics, mathematics, and statistics to study disease patterns, causes of illness and injury, and factors affecting workforce productivity in communities, while proposing preventive measures and interventions. The curriculum delivers comprehensive education in epidemiological theory and practice, focusing on advanced quantitative analysis techniques and guiding students through original research projects. Specializations cover infectious diseases, wildlife health, zoonotic and vector-borne illnesses, statistical methods, workplace and environmental health, nutrition studies, healthcare systems and economics, social and behavioral factors, as well as reproductive, maternal, child, and developmental health research. Master's candidates must complete either 30 units (thesis track) or 36 units (exam track) of core and elective coursework. Thesis students must additionally complete at least 6 research units beyond the standard requirements. All graduate students must maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA in upper-division and graduate-level courses to remain in good academic standing.
