The program focuses on combining fundamental and practical approaches to entomology to address challenges in biology, agriculture, and environmental science. Students may concentrate on various specialties including pest management strategies, agricultural entomology, plant-pollinator interactions, chemical communication in insects, sensory biology, population dynamics, physiological studies, pesticide research, sustainable pest control, ecological and evolutionary studies, forensic applications, disease-carrying insects, and taxonomic classification. UC Davis offers exceptional research facilities, including the Richard M. Bohart Museum of Entomology with its comprehensive global insect specimens and the Harry H. Laidlaw Jr. Honey Bee Research Center dedicated to honeybee and native bee research. Modern laboratories feature advanced equipment, while climate-controlled growth chambers, experimental fields, and greenhouse spaces support student research initiatives.
Consideration for program admission requires a bachelor’s degree.
