UC Davis' School of Veterinary Medicine hosts around 600 highly motivated professional students who are training to become future veterinarians. The DVM program aims to deliver outstanding educational opportunities, rooted in proven veterinary teaching methods, to produce skilled graduates ready to enhance animal, human, and environmental health. This four-year professional program combines academic coursework with clinical training to award the Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree. Students first gain comprehensive knowledge in comparative veterinary medicine before selecting a specialization in small or large animal care. The adaptable curriculum then enables focus areas including small animal, large animal, equine, livestock, zoological, or mixed practice, as well as specialties like poultry, laboratory animal care, aquatic medicine, pathology, public health, or research.
