The program provides education in plant pathology, covering diseases triggered by viruses, bacteria, fungi, and nematodes. Graduate students can focus on various aspects such as the physiology, biochemistry, and molecular biology of plant pathogens or host-pathogen relationships, the life cycles and environmental interactions of plant pathogens, disease spread patterns and predictive modeling, as well as plant disease identification and management through chemical, biological, and integrated approaches.
The Designated Emphasis in the Biology of Vector-borne Diseases concentrates on researching pathogens, their associated illnesses, and the arthropod vectors that spread these pathogens among plants, animals, and humans. Graduates from this program will be equipped to develop, execute, and assess strategies and solutions for preventing and managing pathogens affecting agriculture, veterinary medicine, and public health.
