The Neuroscience Graduate Group stands as one of the nation's top-tier training initiatives, providing an extensive curriculum and exceptional research prospects for both M.S. and Ph.D. candidates, while also collaborating with combined Physician and Veterinary Scientist Training Programs. With more than 80 faculty members from 20 diverse departments, divisions, and sections—spanning the School of Medicine, School of Veterinary Medicine, College of Biological Sciences, College of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences, and College of Letters and Sciences—this campus-wide program fosters remarkable variety, catering to students with wide-ranging interests, including interdisciplinary studies. This breadth is evident in the program's specialization tracks, covering molecular, cellular, developmental, systems, behavioral, computational, cognitive, and neurological neuroscience. Students can focus on specific disciplines such as cellular/molecular neuroscience, developmental neuroscience, systems neuroscience, cognitive neuroscience, behavioral neuroscience, or computational neuroscience.
The Biophotonics and Bioimaging designated emphasis, based in the Department of Biomedical Engineering, acts as a central hub for research and education in these fields at UC Davis. It brings together experts from both the Davis and Sacramento campuses, including the College of Engineering, School of Medicine, and College of Letters and Science. This program delivers specialized training in the core principles of light interaction with biological systems—from organisms to molecules—while advancing innovative technologies for scientific and medical applications.
