The animal science program provides immersive, practical learning experiences with diverse species, ranging from pets and zoo animals to marine life, farm animals, and horses, among others. This major presents numerous pathways for those passionate about animals and eager to study their biology and management. Students gain both practical skills and scientific knowledge about domesticated animals through concentrations in areas like animal behavior, biochemistry, genetics, nutrition, physiology, marine life, bird sciences, companion animals, research animals, equine studies, livestock management, or poultry science.
The Animal Science Bachelor of Science program draws students with varied animal-related interests, from dietary requirements and bodily processes to genetic regulation and biotechnological applications. Learning occurs through both classroom instruction and hands-on lab work. The curriculum offers a comprehensive exploration of animal conduct, reproduction, development, milk production, cellular biology, selective breeding, livestock evaluation, and other biological aspects. Students can access numerous structured and flexible internship options at the department's expansive animal facilities.
Freshman applicant will be completing or have completed secondary school and have not enrolled at any college or university.
