The worldwide need for meat and dairy products from livestock is projected to increase steadily in the coming years. An applied animal science degree equips you with core competencies and practical abilities essential for a rewarding career in the dynamic realm of livestock production and husbandry.
From the first week, students engage directly with farm animals. Hands-on laboratory sessions and extensive animal facilities expose learners to diverse topics while enabling them to apply theoretical knowledge practically. Notably, UNH stands among just three institutions where students can gain comprehensive experience managing all operations of an on-campus dairy herd through the UNH CREAM (Cooperative Real Education in Agricultural Management) initiative. Additional opportunities include working with poultry via the Poultry Experiential Education Program (PEEP) and sheep through livestock management coursework. After completing an associate degree in applied animal science, eligible students can advance to the university's bachelor's program.
Each student must have their official high school diploma or general equivalency diploma.
Applicants to the applied animal science program area must present four years of college preparatory English and at least two years, preferably three years of satisfactory work in college preparatory science (one of the sciences being biology, with a lab). One year of laboratory college preparatory chemistry is highly recommended.
