The Department of Animal Sciences at Purdue University fosters leadership and innovation in student education, equipping them to tackle emerging challenges in worldwide animal industries. Our faculty engages in impactful scientific research and technology dissemination to support sustainable production of premium animal products, ensuring animal welfare, improving human nutrition, and promoting eco-friendly methods.
Our department's vision is straightforward: we aim to become Indiana's premier resource for animal science knowledge, serving students, industry partners, agricultural organizations, government entities, consumers, and more. We focus on three key objectives: 1) delivering a challenging, practical education that prepares students for lifelong learning, 2) establishing research excellence in targeted fields while building collaborative teams to address industry challenges, and 3) meeting stakeholder needs through innovative digital solutions. Our faculty specializes in growth biology, nutrition science, genetics, physiology, animal management, welfare, and behavior.
