Our program teaches students about the impact of environmental factors on at-risk groups and methods for creating sustainable communities with healthy ecosystems. The coursework equips learners to evaluate health effects from environmental hazards while developing strategies for monitoring and mitigation.

Students gain cross-disciplinary expertise in areas like disease patterns, statistical analysis, toxicology principles, hazard evaluation, pollution measurement, and policy development. These competencies are applied to address environmental health issues locally in the Bay Area, nationally, and globally.

Qualification Requirements

At least a B (3.0) grade-point average or equivalent in work completed in the last two years of a bachelor's degree program and in all post-baccalaureate course work. All applicants are required to submit valid GRE scores. Minimum Scores Required Toefl Paper: 570, Toefl Internet (iBT): 90. As an alternative to the TOEFL, you can submit IELTS scores. IELTS scores are valid for 2 years. Minimum score required is 7. You will need to upload both your Statement of Purpose and Personal History Statement to the SOPHAS application. We require three (3) letters of recommendation to be submitted electronically via the SOPHAS application. You are required to upload an updated CV/resume to your SOPHAS application. Official World Education Services (WES) Evaluations of international transcripts are required to be sent to SOPHAS. Common work experience for admitted applicants: Typical successful applicants have work experience in Research Assistant positions at a health department. A bachelor's degree or recognized equivalent from an accredited institution, a satisfactory scholastic average, usually a minimum grade-point average (GPA) of 3.0 (B) on a 4.0 scale, and enough undergraduate training to do graduate work in your chosen field.
Applicant should have completed one undergraduate course in chemistry and in biology. An undergraduate course in mathematics (e.g., calculus, linear algebra or statistics) is also desirable. Common undergraduate majors for admitted applicants: Chemistry, biology, microbiology, molecular biology, nutrition, ecology, public health, environmental science, Common work experience for admitted applicants: Applicants in past years have worked as lab technicians, student researchers, research scientists, post-graduate fellows, toxicologists, industrial hygiene engineers, and for the Peace Corps.
