The Vision Science PhD program highlights the multidisciplinary approach to vision research by providing comprehensive training in fundamental concepts and methodologies across specialized areas. Active research areas span biomedical optics, visual perception and cognition, cellular and molecular biology, neural systems, computational vision modeling, genetic studies, immune responses, microbial interactions, and clinical applications.
The program offers considerable freedom for students to explore their scientific curiosity. Core coursework is concentrated in the initial year, with personalized study plans and research projects developed in partnership with Academic Advisors and Thesis Committee members. The typical duration for completing the Vision Science doctorate is five years.
