The Berkeley Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences (EECS) program, available through the College of Engineering, integrates core principles of both computer science and electrical engineering into a single major.
Please be aware that UC Berkeley offers two distinct major paths for computer science students: The EECS major results in a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree, whereas the College of Letters & Sciences provides a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree. A key distinction between these majors is that the EECS curriculum mandates more mathematics and science courses, while the CS program emphasizes a broader range of non-technical or general education requirements. For additional details about the BA program, refer to the Computer Science program section in this Guide.
Upon finishing the necessary lower division coursework, EECS majors can choose to focus their studies in either computer science or electrical engineering, depending on their individual interests.
