The Music Department awards both a Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Music and a Music minor. Committed to fostering liberal arts education, the program engages students in comprehensive music studies - encompassing theory, composition, historical contexts, cultural perspectives, technological applications, and performance. The curriculum adapts to diverse student interests while maintaining an expansive, adaptable structure.
This major provides either professional preparation for music careers or lifelong artistic enrichment for students pursuing other paths. Applicants must show basic music proficiency through a placement exam, though no performance audition is required since the program operates within a music department rather than a conservatory setting.
Many students pursue dual majors, combining music with disciplines like molecular biology, physics, theater arts, political economy, English literature, business management, and various other fields across the sciences and humanities.
