The American studies program brings together an interdisciplinary community of scholars and students dedicated to intellectually rigorous, socially conscious research. Our approach examines the Americas through global and hemispheric lenses, analyzing local cultures, nations, and regions within broader geopolitical frameworks. Drawing on our foundational strengths in Indigenous studies, critical race theory, feminist scholarship, class analysis, and community partnerships, we foster academic exploration across diverse fields including historical research, political analysis, visual culture studies, literary and oral traditions, environmental and agricultural systems, religious studies, gender and sexuality studies, kinship structures, geographical inquiry, and economic systems.
The University at Buffalo requires an undergraduate GPA of 3.0 or higher. (The average undergraduate GPA for accepted applicants is 3.66.)
