The Master of Public Policy (MPP) is a specialized degree designed to equip students with analytical tools for tackling critical regional policy challenges, including border security, environmental conservation, and natural resource management. With its regional focus, the program trains future leaders in policy analysis that will shape their communities and states.
This MPP curriculum opens doors to diverse public sector careers, including roles in government agencies at all levels, nonprofit organizations, and private consulting firms as policy researchers and analysts. The program emphasizes policy evaluation, formulation, and problem-solving through both quantitative and qualitative approaches. Graduates from the University of Arizona's MPP program gain enhanced policy expertise to advance their careers in both public and private sectors, while the program's academic intensity also provides strong preparation for doctoral studies.
Our program's core purpose is to train a diverse cohort of graduate students—including working professionals and those new to the field—to become effective leaders in government and nonprofit organizations. We develop critical competencies in analysis, communication, and administration while instilling public service values like ethical conduct, responsibility, and respect for diversity. Our faculty demonstrate these principles through engaged teaching, research, and community service.
The 42-credit MPP program spans two years with three key components: 24 core credits, 15 elective credits, and a 3-credit capstone project. Faculty advisors collaborate with students to select electives that align with their specific policy interests and career goals.
