English has emerged as the global lingua franca, creating a worldwide need for qualified English instructors. The highest demand is for university graduates holding degrees in English, Linguistics, or related humanities and social science fields, particularly those with specialized training in Teaching English as a Second/Foreign Language (TESL/TEFL).
The University of Arizona's English Department features an Applied Linguistics Program that provides a 15-credit, five-course Graduate Certificate in Teaching English as a Second/Foreign Language Research and Practice. This certification can be earned in two to three semesters on campus or through UA Online's accelerated program, consisting of five 7-week sessions completed in just 10 months.
