The Education Studies (EDS) program at UCSD provides a Master of Arts degree focused on Teaching and Learning, with a specialization in American Sign Language-English Bilingual Education for Deaf Children. Graduates of this teacher preparation program become eligible for California's Preliminary Education Specialist Credential in Deaf and Hard of Hearing Instruction, as well as the Preliminary Multiple Subject Teaching Credential featuring a Bilingual Authorization in American Sign Language for elementary and alternative education settings. To ensure educators can effectively serve deaf and hard of hearing students from diverse linguistic and cultural backgrounds, EDS mandates American Sign Language (ASL) proficiency as an admission requirement.
