The field of biology continually requires skilled educators and communicators. Students pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Molecular and Cellular Biology with an Education and Communication specialization develop expertise in chemistry, mathematics, physics, ecology, and biological sciences. Their curriculum includes specialized training in science education and journalism, equipping them to effectively convey research findings and data-driven insights to diverse audiences. Through coursework and internships, undergraduates acquire practical laboratory, instructional, and communication experience while working with distinguished faculty. This specialization enhances science journalism capabilities for those focusing on medical and scientific reporting while establishing a comprehensive base for future science educators.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
Exhibit comprehension of how chemical principles dictate biological molecule organization into cellular structures, tissues, organs, and organisms, along with the energy conversions enabling these processes.
Describe cellular response mechanisms to internal and external stimuli and their resulting effects.
Illustrate how genetic material and its products influence biological structures and traits, including disease processes, by: Distinguishing between DNA replication, transcription, and translation in terms of processes and biological functions. Evaluating inheritance patterns and their phenotypic impacts. Classifying mutation types and anticipating their effects across molecular, cellular, and organismal levels.
