The Biomedical Sciences track is designed for students committed to scientific progress and aspiring to careers in biomedical research, medicine, and related health fields. This curriculum covers biological systems with an emphasis on anatomy, physiology, biochemistry, genetics, and genomics. The department is celebrated for its innovative research in specific fields such as genetics and genomics, population biology, and ecology. Students are urged to undertake their own research projects.
The Bachelor of Science in Biology appeals to those fascinated by biodiversity and the natural environment, offering the adaptability to enter fields like medicine, health, agriculture, and environmental science. The program delivers a comprehensive understanding of biological systems' structure, function, and evolution, spanning from molecules and cells to organisms, communities, and ecosystems. Biology students can select from two specializations: Biomedical Sciences and Organismal Biology, both available through the AZ Online Campus.
The Biomedical Sciences specialization targets students aiming for careers in biomedical research, medicine, and other health professions. It provides instruction in systems biology, concentrating on anatomy, physiology, and biochemistry, and fulfills all prerequisites for medical school admission.
Active involvement in independent research is highly recommended, whether by joining faculty laboratories or enrolling in specialized programs.
Students must have high school equivalent to USA and entry requirements vary from country to country. International applicants whose primary language is not English, or who attended school in a non-English speaking country, regardless of citizenship, must prove English proficiency. English proficiency may be proven by one or more of the following:
