Aerospace engineers drive progress in space exploration and enhance aircraft design. The aerospace and defense industry stands as one of the most robust sectors in the United States, with Arizona playing a key role and the University of Arizona serving as a primary source of aerospace engineering talent. In the Aerospace Engineering Bachelor of Science program, students acquire skills to design and maintain spacecraft, commercial planes, fighter jets, missiles, rockets, and satellites. Graduates possess practical expertise in aerodynamics, control system design, gas dynamics, solid and fluid mechanics, and thermodynamics. Undergraduate students undertake capstone projects sponsored by industry, some of which evolve into commercial offerings. They also gain access to test materials using the university's collection of wind tunnels, including the latest facility that propels air at Mach 4 and Mach 5 to investigate hypersonic flight effects.
