The uncrewed aircraft systems sector is constantly advancing, and Kansas State University Salina Aerospace and Technology Campus leads this transformation. We recognize the value of offering students research experiences, state-of-the-art technology and tools, and a specialized education. This commitment drove us to construct one of the nation's largest indoor UAS flight facilities and secure the first-ever approval for commercial flight training. To develop into a skilled, ethical, and in-demand drone operator, hands-on flight training is essential—it cannot be achieved through online courses or textbooks alone. In our UAS program, students accumulate flight experience by operating a varied collection of uncrewed aircraft in structured multirotor and fixed-wing courses. Upon finishing, they serve as instructors for beginner flight classes.
This bachelor's degree track equips students for professions in uncrewed aircraft systems (UAS) or remotely piloted aviation. As a fast-expanding segment of the industry, graduates will be ready to safely operate UAS vehicles to address new challenges and prospects. The curriculum covers essential aviation flight and maintenance basics for UAS operations, along with specialized courses focused on integrating commercial payloads with platforms and fostering critical thinking in a swiftly evolving technical environment. Students will be prepared for technical or entry-level management roles and must successfully present a portfolio of their learning achievements before graduating.
