Aerospace engineering focuses on designing, building, and studying aircraft and spacecraft. The undergraduate programs in the Department of Aerospace Engineering offer state-of-the-art educational laboratories, committed faculty who support student-driven research, and connections with top companies, utilities, and agencies. This accelerated track enables high-achieving students to obtain both a B.S. and M.S. degree within five years. Graduates of this program will complete at least 146 credit hours. The Aerospace Department at Maryland operates as an independent, specialized unit, distinguishing it from being integrated into a broader department as seen at many institutions. Our department includes 31 full-time professors who instruct aerospace courses for both undergraduate and graduate students. All first-year students in the Clark School take part in Keystone courses to kickstart their engineering education. These classes involve constructing a custom over-sand vehicle prototype and evaluating it on a 60-foot track. Collaborating in teams to finish a practical engineering project during the first year develops essential skills and knowledge that will be applied throughout your engineering career.
