The aviation studies program equips students for leadership roles in both general and commercial aviation sectors. It offers three specialized tracks: aviation management and operations, aviation engineering technology, and flight technology and operations. All flight training for Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) certification follows the relevant Federal Aviation Regulations. Every course in the AERT major requires a grade of C or higher to pass.

Additionally, students must complete studies in science, mathematics, BG Perspective, and business disciplines. Supervised cooperative education placements, aligned with their chosen specialization, are mandatory.

Credit for flight and ground instruction obtained outside BGSU's Aviation Studies Program is generally not accepted, though the College Dean may grant exceptions for exceptionally qualified aviators.
