The Bachelor of Science in Secondary Education equips future educators to teach students in grades 6 through 12. Students blend specialized education courses with advanced studies in their chosen subject area. This CAEP-accredited program, also approved by the Alabama State Department of Education (ALSDE), results in a Class B teaching certification for the selected discipline.
Through partnerships with the College of Arts, Humanities, & Social Sciences, the College of Science, and area schools, the Department of Curriculum and Instruction delivers comprehensive teacher training programs. These combine liberal arts foundations with content-focused professional studies, incorporating hands-on classroom experiences throughout the curriculum.
Graduate-level certification opportunities include: A Master of Education program for currently certified teachers pursuing advanced credentials, a Master of Arts in Teaching for those seeking initial certification, and a graduate certificate option specializing in Autism Spectrum Disorders.
