The writing major equips students for professional paths in writing-focused areas including technical writing, publishing, social media strategy, and public relations, as well as advanced studies in fields like rhetoric and composition, communication, creative writing, education, or legal studies. The program's coursework blends offerings from both the English and Communication Arts Departments.
Students can specialize in one of six tracks: Technical & professional writing, Creative writing, Media writing, Rhetoric & composition, Public relations
An individualized concentration designed by the student with faculty guidance Three concentrations—technical & professional writing, media writing, and public relations—incorporate practical internship experience
The program concludes with a capstone course where students assemble a career portfolio showcasing their work for potential employers.
International applicants must meet all established requirements for admission from secondary schools or from other colleges and universities.
In order to be considered for admission to degree programs with no additional English language training required, applicants must meet the following minimums on the TOEFL or IELTS.
TOEFL (iBT): all sub-scores greater than or equal to 18 OR
IELTS: all sub-scores greater than or equal to 6.0
