Exceptional students in Hispanic Studies may qualify to complete an Honors Thesis or create an Honors Project. The Honors Thesis generally involves extensive research, resulting in a 40-80 page paper written in Spanish, with length varying based on subject matter and approach. With approval from the Hispanic Studies Concentration Advisor, students may instead opt to produce a creative work such as a film or gallery exhibition, accompanied by an academic paper explaining the project's scholarly basis. Planning for an Honors Thesis or Project should start during the junior year. Students spending their junior spring semester abroad in Spanish-speaking countries may wish to contact potential faculty advisors about thesis ideas. The summer before senior year is ideal for preliminary research and compiling a reading list.
