Our program features a multidisciplinary approach combining language learning with cultural studies, literature, and linguistics, equipping students to become engaged global citizens, leaders, and creative thinkers in our interconnected society. Mastering foreign languages unlocks insights into different cultures while providing fresh perspectives on one's own cultural and linguistic background. At the University of South Alabama, students working toward a Bachelor of Arts in Modern Languages can select Russian as their concentration or opt for it as a minor. Spoken by over 155 million native speakers globally, Russian ranks as the world's eighth most common language and holds official status in eight nations. This linguistically rich language boasts an illustrious literary tradition, with iconic authors like Chekhov, Dostoevsky, and Tolstoy having profoundly influenced both Russian heritage and world literature.
