The Jazz program provides specialized training in jazz theory, history, and performance techniques, complementing the foundational Music Core curriculum. Students pursuing this track must maintain classical training on their principal instrument alongside jazz studies. The Bachelor of Arts in Music with a Jazz concentration caters to those seeking deeper jazz exploration than a standard music major provides, built upon a classical music degree framework with performance expectations.
Our Music Department's program cultivates understanding of musical traditions and significant compositions throughout history. Through theoretical training and skill development, students gain intellectual engagement with music. Performance opportunities refine technical abilities and artistic expression. Grounded in liberal arts principles, all department offerings aim to develop both accomplished musicians and well-educated individuals through comprehensive education.
