The Master of Fine Arts in theatre offers six specialized tracks:
Acting
The Acting program delivers an intensive curriculum that equips performers with fundamental techniques and versatility across diverse acting approaches.
Arts Management
This interdisciplinary track combines coursework from Theatre and Dance, the Manderson Graduate School of Business, and the College of Communications and Information Sciences.
Costume Design and Production
Students in this concentration explore both foundational and advanced aspects of costume creation, including design theory, historical context, and practical construction.
Design and Technical Production
This comprehensive program covers Lighting Design, Scenic Design, Sound Design, and Technical Direction, allowing students to gain experience across all technical theatre disciplines while potentially specializing in specific areas.
Directing
A rigorous three-year curriculum balances practical production experience with academic preparation, designed for emerging directors with prior directing experience at any scale.
Stage Management
This intensive three-year program emphasizes hands-on management experience while offering mentorship and teaching opportunities within an academic setting.
The standard MFA program spans three years, though candidates with an MA in theatre may qualify for accelerated study after faculty review. All students must complete at least two years of residency. With approval, up to 45 credit hours may include relevant courses from other departments.
