The Visual Arts Program provides students with numerous chances to enhance both their studio work's sophistication and their capacity for critical thinking within modern art theory. Students frequently meet with full-time and part-time faculty for studio critiques, receiving valuable feedback on both technical execution and conceptual foundations. Additionally, the program strongly advises students to explore elective courses beyond visual arts—including offerings from Writing, Theatre, Film, art history, architecture, philosophy, and other Columbia University departments. These supplementary courses help establish a comprehensive foundation in art history and theory, supporting the development of a robust and thought-provoking studio practice.
