The Special Education Department's Ph.D. program tailors its curriculum to align with student interests and faculty specializations, preparing graduates for academic or research careers. Admission depends on alignment between a candidate's focus area and available faculty mentorship. Enrolled students collaborate with their Plan of Study committee (POS), composed of faculty members including their advisor, to customize their academic path. The program supports diverse specializations within special education, covering areas such as autism spectrum disorders, behavioral challenges, early childhood intervention, gifted education, comprehensive special education approaches, significant disabilities, and transition services.
