The Interdisciplinary Studies Ph.D. program caters to driven students whose academic and research objectives extend beyond traditional departmental Ph.D. offerings. IDS Ph.D. candidates come from diverse backgrounds, with ages spanning from 22 to 85. While some students enroll full-time, others maintain professional careers while pursuing their degrees. Before admission, candidates collaborate with the Graduate School to assemble a faculty team capable of supporting their research vision. The Graduate School additionally verifies that UA's course offerings align with each student's academic objectives.
To confirm UA's ability to support students' research, academic, and professional aspirations, all applicants must consult with the Graduate School's Associate Dean for Admissions before applying. This meeting helps establish an academic home department, advisor, and committee - essential requirements for program admission.
