Beyond the general requirements for all College of Arts and Sciences students, religious studies majors simply need a passion for exploring diverse cultures across historical eras and an inquisitive nature about the various methods human societies—both ancient and modern—have developed to construct meaningful frameworks for living.
The Religious Studies Department has been fortunate to receive generous donations establishing scholarship funds, which help students through merit-based awards or flexible financial assistance distributed at the department chair's discretion. Each year, a faculty committee selects recipients whose names are permanently displayed on commemorative plaques in the department lounge.
The department maintains four regular lecture and discussion programs and sponsors a vibrant Religious Studies Student Association. Connect with us through our Facebook pages (Department of Religious Studies at The University of Alabama and Religious Studies Student Association) or follow us on Twitter/X StudyReligion, Instagram, and LinkedIn. The department also highlights undergraduate research through its blog and organizes an annual student research symposium. Interested students should consult with any REL faculty member about participation opportunities.
