The University of Akron's integrated bioscience doctoral program stands out among Ohio's public and private institutions offering doctoral degrees. It's the only program in the state providing a Ph.D. specifically designed to educate all students through a comprehensive bioscience methodology. The curriculum merges contemporary biology, bioengineering, bioinformatics, and biochemistry, with a core focus on linking different biological organization levels and scientific fields.
Participants must include interdisciplinary elements in their biology-focused research projects, engaging with faculty advisors from at least two participating departments. The program prepares graduates to comprehend current biological concepts within the framework of interconnected biological systems. Qualification Requirements
The applicant must meet the University admission requirements and have an undergraduate degree from an accredited institution. Applicants must submit GRE scores, although not required it is highly recommended that applicants also submit subject GRE in the field of undergraduate degree, three letters of recommendation, a statement of career goals and research interests, and note up to five faculty (rank-ordered) which they would be interested in having as their faculty adviser(s). Applicants are encouraged to contact their prospective Ph.D. advisers prior to submitting their formal applications.
