The department provides two 30-hour Master of Science options in Microbiology: a thesis track and a non-thesis coursework path. Students aspiring to pursue a Ph.D. are highly advised to select the thesis alternative. This research-intensive M.S. program pairs students with tenure-track faculty mentors, allowing them to earn up to 6 credits through BIOL 6000 (M.S. thesis research). Departmental research specialties encompass diverse areas such as animal physiology, ecological studies, evolutionary and systematic biology, microbial sciences, plant biology with biotechnology applications, and quantitative biological approaches.
