The Master of Music (M.M.) program provides specialized tracks in composition, conducting, music theory, musicology (each requiring 30 credit hours), pedagogy (36 hours), and performance (32 hours). This graduate degree requires at least 30 credit hours, with performance majors presenting recitals, musicology and theory students completing a thesis, and composition students creating original works. Musicology candidates must prove proficiency in a foreign language before graduating. The pedagogy specialization (for strings or keyboard) offers a 36-credit, thesis-free option. Performance majors (in jazz, keyboard, collaborative piano, strings, voice, or winds/percussion) complete 32 credits with two faculty-evaluated public recitals. Conducting students (choral, orchestral, or wind) may choose between two performances or one performance accompanied by a supporting research paper.
