The School of Music collaborates with departments of art, theater & dance, and philosophy to offer an interdisciplinary PhD program in Fine Arts. The 15-hour core curriculum focuses on artistic interdisciplinarity, featuring four mandatory courses: a colloquium examining disciplinary frameworks and interdisciplinary approaches, arts history studies, contemporary arts contexts, and aesthetic philosophy. Students complete their core requirements with an approved topics or aesthetics course. The music specialization typically follows a customized curriculum tailored to each student's professional aspirations, culminating in a dissertation. Focus areas include musicology, music theory, music education, and arts administration. Musicology concentrators must prove proficiency in two foreign languages for reading and writing before graduating.

Qualification Requirements
To be accepted into one of the Masters or Doctoral Degree programs in music, the applicant must be approved by the School of Music and admitted by the Texas Tech Graduate School.

Performance or teaching videos/links and digital copies of written work are required before a personal audition or interview will be schedule. If travel to Texas Tech University is not an option, telephone interviews or online interviews may be an option.
