The exercise physiology PhD program equips students with in-depth understanding of how physical activity and lifestyle modifications enhance wellness and decrease disease risk factors through comprehensive physiological mechanisms. This 60-credit doctoral curriculum combines mandatory classes, seminars, elective options, and 12 dissertation credits. Candidates must successfully complete a qualifying examination during their fourth academic term (including summer sessions) after finishing core requirements, before commencing dissertation work. The departmental graduate handbook outlines exam specifics and available formats. Annual evaluations assess each student's academic performance, requiring maintenance of a B-grade average and fulfillment of research advisor-defined benchmarks.
